Why Umbria?
Umbria is located in the centre of Italy. It is also referred to as “the
green heart” of the peninsula for it remains largely untouched consisting
mainly (98%) of mountains and hill-country filled with beautiful forests,
lakes, waterfalls, creeks and wildlife. In the clear air of Umbria rare plants
are still found which elsewhere are extinct.
Umbria is South of Tuscony and North of Rome. From here it is easy to plan day trips to Siena, Florence, the Vatican or to the beaches of Sirolo on the Adriatic coast.
Umbria is also known as the “Mystic”. Since centuries an atmosphere of a different world is kept. The enchanting nature breathes quietness and peace. It is not surprising that this region filled with sacred places accounts for more saints then others, just to mention a few: St. Francis of Assisi, St.Benedict of Norcia, St. Rita of Cascia and St. Claire.
Gubbio, Assisi, Spoleto, Todi and Spello are the best preserved medieval cities of Europe.
Umbria is the “Queen of Festivals” due to its numerous and fantastic manifestations throughout each year. Right in our vicinity you may witness medieval festivals cherished by thousands of people from all over the world. Often these festivals talk of nature, the traditions, history, religion, crafts or food (like the sagra delle spaghetti in our village in August).
